Shopping Guide

No two children are the same—just like their feet. That’s why Froddo shoes are designed to support healthy development, with thoughtful materials and expert construction that adapts to each stage of growth. For the most accurate fit, we recommend using our Size Finder.

Why Materials Matter

We only use natural, certified materials, free from harmful substances like Chromium VI. Every Froddo shoe is made in the EU using sustainable production methods. Our team of pediatricians, orthopedists, designers—and even child psychologists—work together to create shoes that are not only good for little feet, but also appeal to little minds.

Room to Grow

Children’s feet are soft and still developing, so they can easily squeeze into shoes that are too small—without even noticing. For proper development, feet need space to move and grow.

12mm is the ideal distance between the tip of the longest toe and the front of the shoe.

Letting children go barefoot when possible is a great way to build foot strength and improve natural movement.

Did You Know?

  • Children between 3 and 6 grow about 1mm in foot length every month.
  • Over 50% of children wear shoes that are too small.
  • Feet are shorter in the morning and longer by evening—try on shoes in the afternoon.
  • Standing, not sitting, gives a more accurate foot length when measuring.
  • Feet expand during walking or running—comfort needs to be tested in motion.

To make sure you're choosing the best size, use our Size Finder tool—available on every product page.

Wide or Narrow?

Young children often have chubby feet, but as they grow, foot shapes can vary. Froddo offers different styles to suit narrow, wide, or high-arched feet. If a pair doesn’t seem quite right, try a different model—fit can vary between styles.

How to Choose the Right Pair

Good preparation helps. Think about how active your child is, where they’ll wear the shoes, what season it is, and how often they’ll use them. Consider foot length, width, shape, and whether socks will be worn.

Always choose natural materials—like the high-quality leather used in all Froddo shoes—for breathability and comfort. And remember: Size Finder is the easiest way to get your child’s ideal size, with built-in growing room already factored in.

Toe Check Method

Press lightly over the front of the shoe with one hand. Use the other hand to feel where the longest toe is. There should be a finger-width of space in front. Make sure toes aren’t curled or cramped.

Antibacterial Insole

Froddo’s patented insole is removable, lightweight, breathable, and shaped for comfort. It includes a smiley face to show where the longest toe should sit—just place the insole on the floor and have your child stand on it to check the fit. Or for even greater precision, try Size Finder.

Froddopedia: When to Check Foot Size

  • 1–2 years old: every 2 months
  • 3–4 years old: every 4 months
  • 5–6 years old: every 6 months

Measure both feet and always buy shoes to fit the larger one. Avoid hand-me-downs—each child’s foot is unique.

Watch the heels: uneven wear may indicate a need for orthopedic advice.

Bring your child shoe shopping, try shoes on both feet, and walk a few steps to check for comfort.

If you’re buying shoes to wear with socks, try them on that way too.

Late afternoon is the best time to try on shoes, when feet are naturally a little bigger. And don’t forget—you can always rely on Size Finder for a personalised recommendation.
